Infidelity is indeed an intriguing subject to talk about. It is perhaps one topic that stirs the attention of people from all walks of life. We all know that infidelity is one of the oldest sins, but in spite of that, people and scholars cannot fathom it, this is what makes infidelity one of the most absorbing topics to talk about. Who would think that a successful man with a dashing model wife would cheat not just with one woman, but with different women. Then there’s this wife who lives in a mansion with her beautiful children, well provided for by her husband, would still consider cheating on him and eventually gave up her pampered life with a life on the road with her lover. advertisement
Lastly, a public figure, a state man, well-respected and looked up to by his people, ran off with his mistress, leaving his loyalist disappointed, his career damaged, and his family broken, all in the name of infidelity.
With all these drama and surprises caused by infidelity, one can’t help but ask, why do they so it? There are so many answers to that, here’s what’s true and what’s not about cheating. The truth about cheating.
Infidelity is all about the sex.
NOT!
There are different levels and connections involved in cheating. One of them is the emotional level, this is where the lovers share deep bond of connection, and this does not necessarily involved sex, but can eventually lead to one.
Emotional infidelity happens when the lovers feel more understood and accepted in the affair than in their own relationship, thus making emotional infidelity a stronger threat to the marriage.
Hormones can affect cheating.
TRUE!
Studies show that women who have high levels of oestradiol have more chances to become an infidel. Oestradiol is an ovarian hormone that is associated with fertility. The woman with high levels of oestradiol feels attractive, can be more flirtatious, is open emotionally, and is more likely to have a serious extramarital affair. Moreover, high levels of oestradiol negatively affects women’s satisfaction with her long time partner, and have the tendency to look for more desirable partner. This does not mean that women with high levels of this hormone becomes promiscuous, these women become serial monogamist, rather than go for casual sex all the time.
People cheat because they are no longer in love with their partner.
NOT!
Studies have shown that people who cheat are very much in love with their spouses. Most affairs begin because a person in the relationship does not feel happy at the moment, or is bored, or in in too much pressure, but this does not mean that the cheaters are not in love with their long time partner, as a matter of fact most cheaters cannot see themselves separated with their partners. The reason of the cheating isn’t falling out of love, it has to do with the issues in the relationship, such as the husband wanting an ego boost, or the wife is looking for more attention.
Cheaters cheat with younger, more beautiful people.
NOT!
The perfect example of this is Camilla Parker Bowles and Prince Charles. Infidels usually look for something that their partner doesn’t have, or what is lacking in the relationship.
Cheaters will always be cheaters
NOT!
“When my first marriage ended in a divorce because I cheated, I made sure that I will make that same mistake in my second marriage, now that I am given a second chance...” says Tommy, a changed adulterer. “So once a cheater, always a cheater, this doesn’t really count as the truth, I would never cheat on my wife again...” he continues.
