Nothing is as special as spending quality time with your significant other. The first wedding anniversary is always one of the most exciting and highly anticipated events in a married couple’s life. For the first time after a whole 12 months, husband and wife can celebrate the day they exchanged vows.
On this particular day, it is a common practice among couples to relax and reminisce during an intimate dinner for two, away from the kids (if there’s any). After all, a first wedding anniversary is a time for exclusive romance! Turn down the lights, light some candles and sit down on a romantic dinner.

If you’re not in the mood to cook, you can always order take-out. Or, for a more fantabulous evening, you can book at your favourite restaurant for a candle-lit dinner! A first wedding anniversary requires some creativity and imagination not only with how it is celebrated, but with the gift as well.
Present your spouse with a thoughtful gift—it doesn’t really have to be expensive because ultimately, it’s the thought that counts. Just by remembering the occasion will be enough to delight your spouse. Luxurious items such as linens, perfumes and jewellery is often a good bet, though it can be a bit expensive.
A small gift basket filled with a CD of your favourite mellow tracks, roses, a bottle of wine, and bath salts may not be costly, but it can make your night more special. The roses can be arranged on the table, and wine can make dinner more out of the ordinary.
Afterwards, you can soak together in a warm bath with romantic music playing on the background. It may not be lavish but hey, it’ll surely make your night dreamy. Anniversary gifts must be simple yet should evoke a promise of more joyful years to come. Although paper is the traditional gift for a first anniversary, a modern couple can give just about anything to each other.
If, however, one prefers to do it the traditional way, a brilliant choice for a gift would be a gift certificate. It may seem not quite traditional, but it’s still paper, and can be used to buy anything. Is your spouse fond of sports? A gift of paper that’s a sure hit are tickets to his/her favourite ball game.
Even if going to a baseball game is not high on your list of priorities, show your significant other that you care by checking out the schedule and purchasing a ticket for both of you. It could prove to be something you’ll enjoy—after all, one will never know unless one tries it.
Another inexpensive paper gift is coupons. No, not the kind that are store-bought, but those which are made by you. Coupons that are good for treats such as a mind-blowing massage (served with a side of passionate kisses), an opportunity to avoid doing the dishes for a whole week, or a night of pampering from head to foot.
Wrap the coupon elaborately, or put it in a box within a box to make the unwrapping process more exciting and fun. Gifts are nice, but a gift alone can never prove your love. Tell your spouse how much you adore and cherish him/ her. It’s not like they don’t know it yet, but reminding them of your love on your special day can go a long way.
