 Guys often say they don’t know where to meet someone, or the good ones are hard to find. Men have it tough, but single lesbians have it even tougher—especially if you don’t live in one of the major urban centers in the country. Finding someone to date or befriend can be challenging, since only 10-20 percent of the population are GLBT (Gay, lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender).
Also, when one lives in a place where being GLBT is not that acceptable, it becomes somewhat impossible to meet someone. However, finding new love isn’t that hard, especially if one knows where to look. Gay and lesbian communities are growing everyday—organizations and events tailored for the community are more frequent.

Access to these communities may be done mostly through the internet. Numerous websites give information about different community centers, social/religious groups, sports events, etc in different areas of the country. Look for social organizations that best suit your interest, such as book clubs, singing groups, political organizations, etc. Striking up a conversation is easier, not only because of the sexual orientation, but also because of some shared common interests.
The church is also an excellent place where one could meet other lesbians, even if it sounds a little old-fashioned. There are gay-friendly churches where one can meet other gays and lesbians sharing the same faith. It is a great way to introduce you to the local community and meet other singles who may be looking for a potential partner, too.
If joining a gay and lesbian community is a little too much for you (especially those who haven’t “come out” yet), or maybe there’s nobody there that interests you, there are still lots of ways to meet lesbians anywhere. Although it sounds stereotypical, a lot of lesbians really love sports, so consider joining a local sports team.
Athletic women come in various shapes and sizes, and you can find them all at the local sports club. However, keep in mind that not all athletic women are gay, so be super-cautious before making any move. Be sure to switch on your gaydar before you approach that somebody who caught your eye.
Dogs are indeed man’s best friend—not only are they loyal and trustworthy—they can also provide a relaxed and casual way of meeting other women. Take Bruno for a walk in the nearby park and you’ll see a lot of women accessorized with their beribboned dogs. A lot of lesbians are dog lovers, and it goes for the straight folks too.
Be careful before you pet somebody’s dog, though—you never know if it bites. Where else can you find a place literally swarming with hundreds—no, thousands—of attractive, single women? The university! If you’re a student you get to meet a lot of people in your class, and walking around the campus in between classes.
In addition to this, queer campus-wide clubs and groups can also provide lots of great resources. Simply sign up for a short course and you’re on your way. And of course, there’s always the convenience of meeting people through the internet. There are online dating sites that specifically cater to lesbians and bisexual women worldwide.
It is not only an easy way to meet people, but can be done in the convenience of your own home, too. Less fuss, boundless opportunities.
