 Have you ever been in those awkward situations, especially in parties or reunions and you get to meet someone or an old friend, where you begin with pleasantries then before you know it, you are bombarded with questions as if you were interrogated with a heinous crime? Like- You’re single? (With shock expression) What’s wrong? You don’t believe in marriage? Why? What are you looking for? Are you gay? Maybe you’re too picky.
You’re too pretty to go solo; have you tried joining in women looking for men club? Do you want to meet my cousin Eddy? Well, I have and it’s a nightmare. I know how annoying it is and I want to do something about it. That is why today to ease up the inconvenience of all the single ladies out there, I am going to write an article on what not to say to your single friend.

First of all, it’s not a crime to be one and there is nothing wrong with you if you choose to take your time or remain as that forever. I believe that you can be truly happy with whatever life that you choose(alone or unmarried). So, if you have a single friend never tell her “Don’t be too picky!” your single friend will see this quite demeaning because of whatever reason she doesn’t have the right to be discriminating anymore.
It’s like telling her to settle for the next chum that comes her way. You should never tell your single friend. Another thing to keep in mind is not to tell her “Why don’t you put on some make- up?” I believe that you should allow your single friend to wear the style that she thinks fits her personality.
The right man for her will like the style that she deems meaningful to her. You have to remember, false advertising always never works. A make over is only allowed when she is open about the idea or asked for it herself. “You should (lose/gain) some weight” saying this will only make her feel worst and make her feel that she has no personality whatsoever.
If ever she wants to lose or gain some weight, it’s because it will make feel good about herself not to impress some jack ass she doesn’t know. You should never tell her “Get out and get some action! You can do it!” it’s like telling your friend to play baseball and expects to hit a home run.
Saying this is like implying that your single friend is not living her life to the fullest and frankly speaking, who are you to say that? I know that you want the best for her and you want the same happiness that you have in your life (having a partner) but happiness is different for each person and the journey to reach that is very personal and subjective.
Don’t force her to do something that she is not comfortable with. It’s best that you say something encouraging to her. Advocate love of life, tell her to enjoy life and enjoy her singleness. Because if your single friend feels good and enjoys the life that she is living, it’s a sure-fire way that she is going to meet the right person that have the same enthusiasm and the same quirkiness.
So again, stop pushing and start encouraging.
